Ok i played on the weekend in 2 places i hate and never have played usally. I usally play WA. But my coach put me in GD and GK she was amazed of how well i was in GD so she put me there for the next quater then she moved me to GK and i was also good at that.
Seeing as i am usally a WA i move away from the player it sort of helped at times then i my teams remind me that i was meant to be defending. I am not that good at defending so what are some tips to play in GD and DK because my coach told me i am playing there this weekend
Hi Rachel,
This Roles and Responsibilites sheet should provide you with some positional pointers (free to view).
Hope this helps get you started and best of luck in your new defensive role!
The Sportplan Team
Defence positions are a lot about reading play and have fast hands and feet to get you to the positon that allows you to intercept those passes. being tall helps, but not always the most important thing. obviously you have a natural talent, so keep doing what you are doing, but im guessing what you will to work on is, zoning, blocking your player after they have taken a shot, moving around the circle (lots of footwork), using your outside arm, bssic defence lean, rebounding, and working within the circle with the other defence player. if you want info on any one of these in more detail, let me know. goodluck. defence is awesome.
in more ways than one
The Wing Attack is the critical link between midcourt possession and circle feeding. This masterclass breaks down the movement patterns, timing, and spatial awareness that separate elite WAs from the rest, with practical drills to develop these skills at every level.
Footwork is the foundation of every skill in netball. This guide provides a clear explanation of the stepping rule, the mechanics of one-foot and two-foot landings, pivoting technique, and progressive drills to build footwork confidence from junior level upward.
The early 'shoot from anywhere' era is over. Smart teams now use data-driven decision models to decide when the two-pointer is worth it.
