How do you get under 11's to come forward for the ball and not to call for the ball when they have a player on them?
Ues Spots or cones - drive towards only then put it in to a game -
I will sometimes get them into positions on the whole court (undefended). Then tell them they must use each player down the court and they must come forward for the pass. Get them to start as far back as possible (eg%3A GA standing around the top of the goal circle) so that they have room to move forward.
I will also play half court and take possession off them if they drop behind! Sounds mean but we make it fun and they laugh and realise how often they do drop behind for the ball. In the end they are all calling each other forward and this has followed on through in the games.
A great drill i found on this site. Split your team into 2 teams, attackers and defenders, put bibs on one team. I limit the play area to 1 quarter so they don't spread out too far.
The aim of the game is for each team to try and get 6 clear passes between themselves. The rules for this drill are quite strict but it works a treat in getting them infront. No stepping, no dropping the ball, no passing over a player, no stepping out of the designated area as well as the normal netball rules too (obstructing, contacting etc).
If any of these rules are broken the play is handed over to the other team
These rules force direct passes as they can't throw overhead passes and the girls really try hard to get infront to be the first team to reach 6 consecutive passes between them.
Once they get the hang of it, it's really fun and they get excited as you count their passes. If they lose play it makes them more determined to try harder when they get the ball back.
This drill has worked wonders for my 10 year old girls and they ask to do this drill every training session! And it has made a huge improvement on game day
Good Luck
also, using the min game scenario, restrict it to bounce passes as they have to be in front of player to receive the ball
