Help! 2 of my girls (adults) keep stepping, what are some good drills to teach them not to step?
no matter what age, i use a very basic start to teach someone who is new to netball how not to step. basically, get them to run and jump with a two footed landing, that is balanced and knees bent, and ready to catch a ball. when they are landing correctly then get them to run at you and you pass them a ball. (teaches 2 things, running onto the ball, and no stepping). that way it wont matter what foot they use, both feet are landed. (less confusion).
once they get that basic concept, you can quickly add the catch, pivot, pass, and passes to the side. once they have it completely learnt how to land and not step with 2 grounded feet, then progess to teach them how to catch on one foot and not step, and then the true stepping rule. but that part takes awhile normally, so start with 2 footed landings.
good luck.
