Hi Jami,
The best way to beat a defensive zone is to break it. This means encouraging your players to have the confidence to take on the defenders to pull them with your attacker and open up space. Once this space has opened up the attacker must drive hard into this space to receive the ball. Often the attacking players who take on the defenders and draw them away feel they are not doing anything as they haven`t been used, but they have played a crucial role in opening up space for their teammate.
