Foot work, I need examples

Foot work, I need examples

Hi there, Im coaching my childrens netball team and actually don't know much about netball. I have downloaded the 'Defensive moves to secure possession' plan so we can do some work but I don't understand what 'rolls, forward and back drives and weaves' are, have you got some examples so I can understand what these moves are?ThanksShae

Hi Shae,

It is great to hear you are coaching your child's netball team! Firstly, as you do not know a lot about netball I would suggest you take a look at our fundamentals section - this will provide you with the basics and how to do these correctly. I would also advise purchasing our 'Beginners Coaching Pack' - you can find this in 'Plans' and at the top right click 'Session Packs'. This pack contains six sessions that have been developed to help develop your players right from a beginner level. The pack is designed to give both you and your players the confidence in order to improve their netball, but ensure that they are learning the correct technique from the start.

However, from the session you have already downloaded, the section you are speaking about is from the warm up. The 'Footwork Warm Up' drill is simply to get your player's feet moving, therefore you can allow some freedom within this. Forward and backward drives, simply mean driving (running) forwards and backwards - usually at an angle so they can always see the ball. In regards to a 'roll', this is where the player uses their body to roll around the defender in order to get free, see
