At this age you have probably spent the past 2-3 years coaching your players about the basics of rugby, passing, running, support and most importantly the tackle zone. If I am correct there is one more area that is probably irking you, the set piece, i.e., the scrum and line out.
I can bet that your rugby players still pack down, not looking at the ball, the half back receives the ball, passes it to the nearest player or the player he runs into and that player runs back into the middle of the opposition defence. Am I correct?
You aren't alone. The players at this age don't understand the need to pass the ball away from the scrum or line out to a player in space, they are more likely to pick it up and run in any direction they see fit as long as they have the ball tucked under their arm.

So how do you coach the basics of the Set Piece (scrums and Line outs)?
The next stage is to introduce the technical aspects of the scrum and line out in isolated games such as piggy in the middle (line out jumping) and kneeling wrestling (for scrum stability).
What we have done with manual is divide each training session into 4 lots of 10 minute skill development sessions and finish the training session with a modified tackle rugby game to reinforce what they have learnt during the training session.
That's a full hour of quality rugby coaching in which the players will love and be focused for the entirety. At the end of the training session the players would have learnt, had fun and will be tired. Mum will love you for that!
