This practice encourages concentration and awareness.
3 players (A, B and C) stand on the cones making the top three points of a star (they are static during the practice), the fourth point in made up of a queue of players in pairs.
The first pair start. Players 1 passes the ball out to player A and follows their pass, running around them.
Player 2 runs staright forward and receives the pass from player A in the centre of the star.
Player 2 then passes out to player B and follows their pass running around them.
Meanwhile player 1 has run back into the centre to recieve from player B.
Player 1 then passes it out to player C and follows their pass around them.
Player 2 runs in to receive the pass from player C in the centre
Player 2 then passes the ball out to player 1 and player 1 passes it to the next pair.
They both then join the back of the line.
Rotate the static players as and when.
Players must be focused on the drill at all times and must remember to run around the player they passed the ball to and then back into the centre to recieve the next pass.
Players should be running and signalling for the pass to be played in front of them.
Players should be waiting behind the point of the star and sprinting in to recieve the pass in the centre.
Vary the distance of the cones to encourage different passing techniques.
Get players recieveing the ball one hande.
Add in a passive defender to apply pressure on the passes.
If the quality and timing of the pass allows it use this drill to work on a running pass (this will only happen if passes are in front of the player and the drill is moving at a fast pace).
This session looks to refresh and refine your players pre-existing ball skills whilst developing their stamina and endurance.
Build upon your player's team cohesion, in particular focusing on their passing and communication skills to keep possession of the ball.
The aim of this drill is to get the players to think about passing and moving in variety of directions at speed.
The ball must always travel around the edge of the rectangle/flag. You can change this direction from clockwise to anticlockwise as an when you feel they are ready (or to try and catch them off-guard).
After making a pass players must swap positions with their opposite player.
You can add in as many players as you like along the edges but always leave one pair at either end.
Players work with one ball in pairs inside a square area. The player without a ball (Red 1) sprints across the box to receive the ball on the other side.
Player 1 then turns as they receive the pass. Red 2 then runs across to receive ball on the other side etc.
Make sure players are balanced and are in control before they make the next pass.
The worker must not move across the square until the feeder is ready to release the ball.
Have two groups of players (blues and whites) split themselves into two lines. Each line stands facing the other coloured group.
The first 2 players drive in opposite angles, with player 1 (blue) receiving the first pass from the coach.
Player 2 (white) must then change direction to receive the pass from the other player.
After this the player with the ball passes to one of the two players from the other side and the drill continues.
The GK has a back line pass. The Centre takes up her position just in middle of transverse line giving the impression she is not going to be involved in this immediate passage of play... but SHE IS!
The WD and GD roll away to opposite directions (taking their chasing opponents with them) leaving huge space for the centre to drive into receiving the ball at the top of the circle.
The centre, remembering to use the 3rs (receive, rotate and release) passes to the WD, who passes to the GD. Again the ball has progressed from defence to attack over 2/3rds of the court in 3 "simple" passes.
minimum of 8 players set up in square grid as shown in picture Ball is passed round the square with players timing their move so that they run onto the ball at an angle towards the middle of the square.
4 players 1 ball 1 player is the worker 1 semi active defender and 1 feeder and 1 player catching the pass. The ball is fed into the worker who has to pass the ball left or right past the dfenders to the player behind the defender. After the player has caught the ball she passes it to the original feeder to start the practice again.
For this drill your players will need to get into groups of 4, with 1 ball between them. 2 players work inside the grid whilst the other 2 stand on opposite sides. The defending player is only allowed to stay on the line (marked out with cones). The player without the ball starts next to defender and can only receive the ball behind the defender. The feeding player with the ball has to pass the ball to this player, aiming to pass without having the ball intercepted. On receiving the pass this player pivots and passes the ball to the other player.
In pairs moving up the court passing the ball to each other while side hopping and facing each other at all time.
Teams of 3 or 4. Each team numbers themselves 1-2-3-4 and has one ball. The ball should be passed around the team in numerical orders whilst moving around the set area. Variation after having passed the ball, the player can try and intercept the ball from the other teams (give ball back on interception). 3 second rule applies for the team pasing their ball around.
Put your players into pairs, about 2-3 metres apart from one another with one ball. Using one hand players must lob pass to one another (don't forget to transfer your weight onto your front foot when passing).
One player always passes the ball straight and the other always passes the ball diagonally. Both players are catching and throwing the ball with one hand and at shoulder height.
Split your players into groups of three, with one ball per group. Player 2's job is to hold their space (screening) behind the defender (player X), leading slightly with one shoulder. When the feeder lifts the ball over player X player 2 must move to receive the pass and then hold/ protect the ball.
Set up 4 lines of players down a third. 2 lines at each end, facing each other, 1, 2, 3, 4 A1 passes to A2, and runs in front of A2 to receive the ball back. A2 Passes to A1 and runs to in front of where A1 was. A1 passes to A3 and the same happens at the other side. Players join the end of the lines at the other side.
W with ball may pass the ball to any of the feeders on the outside of the channel and move to receive the ball back. The player then throws to another feeder in order to work a way through to the other end of the tunnel. Defender attempts to delay the players progress or intercept the ball. When player reaches the other side or when defender intercepts roles are reversed. Point scored each time player reaches other side.
4 red players load the first four cones on the tree. Players with the ball start at one end of the court and pass the ball to the next player on the cone, after the player has received the ball they pass it on again and follow their pass and stand on the cone. When the players reach the other end of the court they wait with their ball until all the balls are at this end and then the practice can start again but in reverse.
The player with the ball starts by passing using a shoulder pass to the player opposite them They sprint to follow their pass to the back of the opposite line Next player shoulder passes then follows the ball, joining the back of the opposite line. Drill should be continuous.
The red players around the outside square have a ball each and move anti-clockwise around the box. Red players must make a pass inside to the blue players when they are on a corner and receive the return pass when they reach the half way point down the line. They then play another one-two pass receiving the return pass on the corner of the square.
Player 2 feeds the ball to Player 1 before sprinting forward to receive the ball. Player 2 then returns the ball to Player 1, sprints onto the third line and then back to receive a 2nd high pass and then feed onto 3. Repeat
Players pass the ball clock wise. After each pass the player runs to touch the cone of the player in the opposite direction they passed to and then runs back to their own cone.
Set out grids 5 by 5 m. For the practice 1 player on each corner with 1 ball between 4. Player passes ball clock wise and after pass moves to touch the cone in the middle of the square and back out again.
Set out Grids 5 players to one gird. 1 ball. Player after passing the ball run around the outside cone and continue to the next cone to wait for the next pass.
