Netball: Taking on two defenders

Thank you, what a brilliant site. Our team uses many of these effective...

DESCRIPTION

Position cones 8-10m apart. A starts at one cone, F stands with the ball at the other cone. 2 defenders stagger themselves between the two cones as shown.

  1. A sprints towards the first defender in the attempt to convince the defender she is driving a certain way. A should be driving hard enought that D moves to close her down.
  2. As D moves to mark A, A changes direction quickly and drives towards the other D, who moves to shut her down.
  3. A should change direction again quickly and drive towards F.
  4. F passes the ball to A once she is free.
  5. A resets and repeats.

COACHING POINTS

The idea of the practise is for A (attacker) to take on defence (D) and 'outwit' them. A's movements need to be executed with conviction and no hesitation.

  1. A should employ a variety of ways of getting free from the D.
  2. D should stay staggered and not squeeze A tightly.
  3. F should release the ball once A is free.
  4. A should be considered to change the angles of her drive and body, even using the back space.
