Netball: Cross overs

Set up: 2 balls 4 corners in partners Partners drive out together. One to receive a pass (attacker A) from feeder in opposite line and one to anticipate defending the oncoming attacker from diagonal side. Feeder (from opposite line) delivers ball to either one of the drivers who then becomes the attacker. Attacker A delivers ball to opposite attacker who has driven from the diagonal side. Attacker A to drive and cut through court to receive the ball from diagonal opposite feeder. Defensive partner to defend oncoming space/person. Attacker to receive the ball in front of defender. Ball returns back to line. Workers to return to line.

Have two lines of players both stood behind a cone on the edge of the first third. The red player starts with the ball. The blue player sprints to the cone on the baseline and receives the diagonal overhead pass from the red player. Once they have received the ball the blue player then passes the ball to the next player in their team before sprinting the back of their line. The drill repeats the other way round (blue passing to red). Drill continues in this way.

position lines of players (or a team) down the court in a straight line, preferably in position order. The GK faces the back wall away from the court, throws the ball up in the air, rotates, receives and releases the ball to the next player. The next player up the line drives into space, with a sharp change of direction and also receives, rotates and then releases the ball to the next player up the line.

Split the group into 8s. 2 Balls starting with Player 1 and Player 4. The players then pass the balls diagnoally until the ball reaches an end. They then pass the ball straight to the person opposite them and continue the practice.

Set out the players as shown. The path of the ball should be straight. The players should move onto the ball in anticipation for maximum speed of transferring the ball up the court. After having passed the ball the player either keeps moving and approach the ball from the opposite side or the player can return to their original side to wait for the ball to come back down the court.

4 players, 2 balls. The Player in the middle has to, on reciept of the ball, pass the ball onto a player that does not have a ball. This can not be to the player that just passed them the ball. Progression Players 1 and 3 move wider around the worker.

Divide your players into 2 teams. The attackers (blue) have to try and keep the ball, passing from the left side of the playing area and taking it through the defender's territory into the 'restricted area'. Attackers must complete 10 passes before being allowed to enter the restricted zone - if they manage to do this they score a point. To prevent the attackers from scoring though the defenders have to use the 3 stages of defending to gain possession of the ball.

White player 1 throws the ball to the thrower (blue 1) who passes the ball back to 1 as the player runs into a space. 1 lands and passes the ball to the first player on the opposite line (white 4). The exercise continues in this manner.

4 players or more. 1 ball. Blue 1 drives forward to receive the ball from White 1. Blue 1 lands, turns and feeds to Blue 2, before returning to the back of the blue line. Blue 2 feeds to White 1 driving on to the ball.

8+ players, 2 balls, half court space.  1. Balls start in opposite corners. 2. Player at the front pass the ball diagonally across the square and joins the back of that line. 3. The player who receives the diagonal pass now sends a straight pass to the line opposite them and joins that line.  4. Passes are alternated. 

Set up: 1 ball, 4 cones, 1 third area, 6+ players. Three cones are set up in an arrow formation with 2 at the base. A player stands on each of the cones. Remainder of players are in two lines at the bottom of the arrow behind the two cones.  Ball starts at Player A (left line). Player A passes to feeder 1 (first cone on the left). Feeder 1 passers to player B while Player A runs around feeder 1.  Player B passes to feeder 2 then runs around the feeder.  Feeder 2 passes to player A who receives the ball in the middle of the diamond.  Player A passes to feeder 3 then runs around the feeder. Feeder 3 passes to Player B who has driven from feeder 2 and receives the ball in the middle.

Split your players into 2 equal team (1 team in bibs) and use the whole court. Rules of Street Ball: All players can go anywhere (no positional restrictions) Players score a point by touching the ball down on the opponents goal line (court backline) First team to score 10 points wins Netball rules apply - no moving with the ball, defenders must be 1 metre away and no holding of the ball longer than 3 seconds

Players in pairs with 1 ball between them. They have to keep possession of the ball by passing it around and running into spaces, whilst 1 or 2 catchers are nominated to try and intercept the balls. When a pair lose the ball, they move out of the area and those intercepting continue to do so until all balls have been intercepted OR a time limit is reached.

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON* Set up: Any number of players and space. The challnege is for playes to use eachother to balance feet on eachothers shoulders and do a push up as a group in one movement. Only their hands are to be on the ground. 

Set up: 2 lines of players in partners set up across from each other with one ball per partner.   Players are to pass to each other in their partners. The 2 players at the far end (don’t have a ball) begin weaving in and out of players down their own side until they get to the opposite end. Players who have just weaved call for a ball from the far end to get passed to them. The player and the partner who are now at the far end without the ball begin to weave down themselves.

Split players into 3s. White players are attackers, the blue players are the defenders. The 3 attackers aim is to get to the other end of the court. They must make 3 passes in each third before progressing to the next one (3 defenders in each, this can start as static defence and gradually become more active as the attack progresses). Players attack up the court twice and then down the court twice before switching with the next group of three.

3 players 1 ball start – together on back line run in opposite figure of 8 up court as below. Ensure timing is good so wait until player is in middle to receive straight line ball

Set up: 6+ players, full court space, 1-4 balls, 8 cones Three cones are set up across the width of the court about a meter in from the sideline. In groups of three players line up across from each other behind the cones.  Cones may be placed along the sideline so player understand they are to stay on the outside of theses cones but still in court.  The ball starts with the middle person. Player on the left cone drives out straight and receives a pass from the middle. Middle person then runs to the person they passed the ball to. Player on left who received the pass, deliveries the ball to the third player who has driven out on the right. When players pass they the follow it to the player they have passed to take their position. Players continue this ‘weave’ down the court.   

Set up: 7+ players, one ball, full court. Players set up in loosely positioned areas.  Ball starts down one end i.e. with the shooter and players work the ball through the full court.   

Starting on a backline, players move the ball through the court ending up with the shooter who puts a shot up. Players should aim to pass the ball in the following order: GK, GD, WD, C, WA, GA, GS. If WD had the ball for example, ideally the C should receive it, but WA also needs to offer in a different space for the ball, as well as the GD providing a back up offer if the C is not available. There should always be a back-up offer from the player who has just received the ball, as well as a minimum of two offers from down the court. Players should aim to time their movement so they are reading off each other. Players have a defender on them.
