3 Player Pass and Move Drill

Players work in groups of 3, with one ball per group. The ball starts on the side with two players. The first player in the line passes to the opposite side and then follows their own pass. The receiving player catches the ball and then also passes and follows their own pass. Drill continues. Players must move laterally from one end of the court to the other while performing this skill.

Footwork and Movement

3 v 3

Split the class into groups of 6. With 3 defenders and 3 attackers. One team starts with the ball and is attacking the basket, with the other team defending. If the defenders get the ball then the roles are reversed.

Full court passing and dribbling

Players are stood in each corner of the court with two players stood in the center circle. On the coach's signal players 1 and 2 start dribbling before passing to players 3 and 4 respectively who return the pass. Players 1 and 2 then dribble further before passing to players 5 and 6 and moving towards the elbow of the free throw line to receive the return pass from players 5 and 6. They then immediately pass to the players 7 and 8. Players 1 and 2 should now replace players 5 and 6.

Pass and Move - Around the cone

After passing the ball players must run around a cone before rejoining the playing area. Once players have run around a cone they are eligible to receive a pass again.

Players work in teams of 4 with 1 ball per team. Tell the players to number themselves 1 to 4 and they have to pass the ball from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 and then to 1 again and continue. Do this for a minute so the players can get used to who passes to who. Once they have established the pattern tell the player that after they pass the ball they have to run around one of the outside corner cones before they can come in and receive the ball again.

Player 1 passes to player 3 who then passes to player 2. Once player 3 has passed the ball he then runs to player 1 and shouts "Go", player 1 then goes to where player 3 was. Player 2 then passes to player 1 and they then pass to player 4. Player 1 then runs to player 2 and exchanges positions.

Player 1 passes to player 3 and runs straight to receive a pass from player 3. The opposite player (2) runs towards 1 and receive a ball and then hand off pass to player 4 and goes behind them. 1 goes behind the 2nd player 1 (on the right) and the drill continues.

After passing the ball players must run around a cone before rejoining the playing area. Once players have run around a cone they are eligible to receive a pass again.

Player starting with the ball has to have an empty cone to one of their sides. After passing the ball to the player on the next cone they have to run and touch the cone in the middle and run out to the empty cone. The 2nd player does the same and the exercise should be able to continue round and round.

One player has a ball and another player starts in the middle of a cross-shaped set of cones. On the command, Red Player 1 moves to touch one of the cones before returning back to the middle to receive a pass from White 1.The player then has to touch a different cone before returning back to the middle to receive a pass. Once the middle player has touched all four cones then the player switch over.

In pairs one player starts with a ball, with their partner starts opposite them. The player with the ball throws the ball to the cone on either the right or left. The receiving player moves to catch the ball before throwing the ball back to the passer.

Lead to the left of right with one foot. When the weight is transferred over that foot, make a pass straight. Use this pass to move to the side of a defender.

Players line up on two sides, with one player stood in the middle. The ball starts on the side where there are most players lined up. The first player passes to the middle player and runs to the left to receive the return pass. Players then perform a quick one-two pass before passing the ball to the player on the opposite side. The drill then starts again, with the player who made the initial pass remaining in the middle.

Player 1 will pass the ball to player 2.Player 1 will cut around the cone and down towards the next cone where they will receive the ball from player 2. Once the ball has been received, player 1 will dribble towards the baseline and shoot.The players will then switch lines.

Starting with the ball in triple threat position, the passer will step around the defensive player and make a bounce pass from their hip.

Straight passing and diagonal running. 4 groups of players with two balls (see diagram). O1 with balls pass to the other side and runs diagonally to opposite group and continue.

Step with your left foot and pass off the left hip against a wall 3 m away. Make the pass return so you can catch without having to move. Then step backwards and into position to repeat the exercise.

In and Out - V-Cut Passing - B...

3 players work with one ball between them inside a quarter of the court. In the middle of the half of area is a cone. Player 1, with the ball in hand, starts on one of the corners of the grid and passes to player 2 after they have run inside the area, touched the cone, and then run outside into open space to receive the pass. Player 2 then passes to player 3 and the drill continues.

Player 1 passes to player 2 before making a cut to the low post then to the high post. Player 2 passes to high post and makes a scissors cut for return pass and shot.

Players line up at the half way line. The first player in the group starts with the ball. Player 2 stands on the left hand side of the court and player 3 stands at the corner on the right hand side. Player 1 passes to player 2, fakes to go the other way and then goes towards the ball and receives the return pass. Player 1 pivots (use front or reverse pivot) and passes the ball to player 3 before then performing a V cut towards the other side of the court, stopping and then pivoting towards the ball to receive the pass from player 3 and executes a lay up shot. After the lay up shot player 1 plays an outlet pass to player 2 and then goes to replace player 3. Player 3 replace player 2 who then passes to the next starting player and goes to join the back of the queue.

Players set up as shown in the diagram.The player who makes the first pass, will run around the outside of the circle and back to their original spot.The rest of the players in the circle will pass the ball around.If the person running gets around the circle and back to their original spot before the ball gets there they are the winners.

One player stands on each cone with a fifth player standing between two of the players, with the ball in hand. The player in front of the player in possession should set off on a lead run and receive the pass from the fifth player. After running onto the pass the next player in the square should make a lead run, looking to receive the next pass. After passing players should continue to run until they reach the unoccupied cone.

Player 1 dribbles to the cone before passing to player 2, and then proceeds to continue their run to the next cone. They then make a cut to receive the pass and then turn and shoot.

Stand about 10 feet away from a wall. Pass the ball around your back so it bounces back on your front side. Once you catch the ball again, you wrap it around your back again and continue the drill in the same way.
