Elbow shooting drill

The group of players based on the halfway line start by running towards the elbow of the three point line. On receiving the ball the player should then shoot. The practice is then repeated on the other side of the arc.

Shooting

L cut to basket

Player 1 dribbles from corner to the top of the 3pt line. Pass to player 2 who dribbles towards the corner. Player 1 now makes an L cut to basket and receives pass from player 2 for the shot.

Footwork and Movement

Leave them standing

Players on the left start with a ball each. Going one player at a time they dribble out into the centre of the court where they meet the defender. The defender should prevent them from moving across the court. Before they get within arm's reach of the defender the attacking player should drive into the key where they have a shot.

Basic Ball Handling

Pass and Move

Seven players with two balls. One player is based at the circle of the free throw line (Player 2). Player 1 passes to player 2, player 1 who makes a cut and goes for a hand off pass. Player 1 passes to player 3 and goes to replace player 3. The same happens on the other side of the court using players 4, 2 and 5.

Possession and Passing on the wing

Players will set up as shown in the animation. With the basketball starting in the corner line. The ball will be passed from the corner to the line at the top. Once passed that player will run towards the free-throw line and receive the ball back. When that pass has been made, the player from the top line will run around the cone and towards the basket where they will receive the ball for a shot. Players will switch lines.

Slalom and Shoot

The player will dribble in and out of the cones. Once past the last cone the player will take another dribble and take a shot. The player will get their own rebound and dribble around to the back of the line.

Square-up Drill

Setup the practice as shown. Player 1 and player 3 perform v cuts, before receiving a pass, pivoting and shooting, get own rebound and change lines.

Team Shooting Drill

To make this a team exercise have players compete as a group in a first to 21 points game. 3 points are awarded for a shot made outside the D, 2 points for a first time shot inside the D and 1 point for any shot scored on the rebound.

Y Shooting Drill

Set up the practice as shown. Split the group in to three. Players in the corners of the court have basketballs. Player 1 sprints straight to the cone in front of them before making a cut either way to then receive a pass from one of the players in the corner. Player 1 then goes onto shoot, before collecting their ball and joining the queue in the corner. The player that gave the pass then runs to the join the queue of players on the half way line.

Zig-Zag Dribble Drill

First player dribbles full court with a defender covering all the time. Upon reaching the opposite baseline player dribbling becomes the defender and the other player dribbles the length of the court.

First player basket cuts and then clears out. Second player pops out to the corner. Third player dives straight to the ball. Fourth player either pops out to the top as the safety or looks for the pass when he pops out to the wing.

3 lines with the basketball starting in the middle.The ball is passed to a side, then back to the middle and then over to the other side.The ball is always passed back to the middle.Once the half court has been reached the players on the side will turn back the other way and run towards the basket.The player in the middle with the ball will dribble down the middle and make a pass to one of the players for a lay-up.

All player start on line On the signal the players must move backwards and forwards over the line whilst maintaing the ball dribbling on the line.

Players line up on 3 point line.Throw ball against the backboard and roll away.Next player jumpst to take the rebound and throws it against the backboard again for the next player.

Players line up as shown. 2 Basketballs are passed between Player 1 and the other players in a rapid fashion, using either chest or bounce pass.

Illonois Lay Ups Shooting - Ba...

This is another drill that can be used for lay-ups or shooting. The players line up in two lines under the basket (one to the left and one to the right). One lane has a ball at the front and the other line has a ball with the second person. The first person (without the ball) curves around to the opposite line to receive a pass and make a lay-up, they then get their own rebound and pass back to the queue from which they received the ball. As soon as the passer has passed, they curve round and get a pass from the other side they take a shot and get their own rebound and pass back to the queue they received it from.

First player basket cuts and clears out to the opposite side of the floor. Second player steps into his defender then pops out to the corner. Third player looks like he is about to cut down the middle then changes direction and screens away for the fourth player to cut to the basket.

First player pops straight to the corner. Second and third player face forward then on the slap turn inwards to screen. Fourth player steps into his defender then cuts hard behind the screen for the jumpshot.

Passing and Screening Passing ...

Players will set out as shown in the animation.The top line will have a basketball. The first player in the line will pass to the person on the right wing.After making the pass the player will run and set a screen for the player on the left wing.The player will curl around off the screen for a short shot. The player who shoots will get the rebound and pass the ball back out to the line at the top. That player will then run out to the right win and become the next passer.<div class=&quot;clear&quot;></div>

Players line up on 3 point line.Throw ball against the backboard and roll away. Next player jumps to take the rebound and throws it against the backboard again for the next player. Players must jump then catch and release the ball before they hit the ground.

Set up two lines, one for the for the defending players (red) and the other for the attacking players (blue) who have one ball.When the coach blows their whistle both players run around their respective cones (shown in diagram).After the blue player has made their way around the cone another player in the offensive players' line passes the ball to them.After they've run round the cones players play out the 1 vs 1.

1 v 1 Advantage Games - Basket...

A line of players will start in the corner. There will be a cone in front of the players about 25 ft away. There will also be a cone along the baseline that the defensive player will run around. The player at the front of the line will have a basketball. The coach will nominate 1 person to start on defence. When the coach yells GO both players will take off to get around their cones. Once they are around the cones they are playing 1 v 1.

Players dribble two balls to the free throw line and back, half way line and back, opposite free throw line and back, opposite baseline and back.

1 on 1 Continuous Games - Bask...

Split into 2 lines and have a line on either side of the court. One player in the middle with a basketball. The player in the middle will pass to the 1st player in one of the lines. After the pass is made that player will go and defender the receiver of the pass. They will play 1v1. Only 1 shot is allowed. Once a shot has been taken the ball will be passed to the opposite line where the offensive player will become the defender.

Players line up on two sides, with one player stood in the middle. The ball starts on the side where there are most players lined up. The first player passes to the middle player and runs to the left to receive the return pass. Players then perform a quick one-two pass before passing the ball to the player on the opposite side. The drill then starts again, with the player who made the initial pass remaining in the middle.

Players start in two lines: either at the half way line or behind the 3 point line. For a right hand lay up: The 1st two players in the right hand line start with basketballs. The first player dribbles to the basket and makes a lay up and leaves their shot and joins the back of the left hand queue. The 1st person in the left hand queue moves to collect the rebound and passes to the next person without a ball in the right hand queue and joins the back of the right hand queue.

Set up as shown in diagram.If the player makes the shot, then they will go to the back of the line and the next player will shoot.If a player misses a shot, then they will go stand by the cone (this place is called the &quot;hot seat&quot;)If the next player makes the shot, then the player on the &quot;hot seat&quot; is out.If the next player misses then the player on the &quot;hot seat&quot; goes to the back of the line and the player who missed takes their place on the &quot;hot seat&quot;.The winner is the last person in the game.

Players are stood in each corner of the court with two players stood in the center circle. On the coach's signal players 1 and 2 start dribbling before passing to players 3 and 4 respectively who return the pass. Players 1 and 2 then dribble further before passing to players 5 and 6 and moving towards the elbow of the free throw line to receive the return pass from players 5 and 6. They then immediately pass to the players 7 and 8. Players 1 and 2 should now replace players 5 and 6.

Split all your players into two teams and have them line up on opposite sides of the court.2 basketballs are placed at mid-court.Each player is given a number (eg. 1-5).The coach will set out a basket that each team will shoot at.The coach will call out a number.When the number is called out, the corresponding number will run out to get the ball, dribble to the basket and keep shooting till the shot is made.Once the shot is made the players will run after the ball and dribble it back to the center circle.The first player to score and get the ball back to the center circle wins.

Shooters will line up with a basketball each. The player with the ball will dribble away from the screen at first and also to get level to have a better angle to use the screen. The players will dribble off the screen to get seperation when they are 1 or 2 dribbles away from the screen the player will stop and shoot a jump shot.

Receiving playersd take a shot and sollect the rebound to pass the ball back to the next two player by the 3 point line.

Players and cones set out as shown in animation.The basketball will be passed from the line at the top to the player stood in the corner.Once the player in the corner has the ball, the player in the top line will run around the cone and towards the side of the free-throw line where they will catch the ball and shoot.The player that shoots the ball will get their own rebound and pass to the player in the corner. Who will then pass to the next player without a ball in the top line.After the player rebounds, he becomes the next passer in the corner.
