what are some good drills/exercises to increase the jump of the defensive players
Hi Shirley I have been getting my ladies to do some plyometrics exercise. If you look on utube under "plyometrics" you will see some exercises for better jumping. Good luck
one drill and exercise is skipping from time to time. this is 1 good way of gettting players to get their feet off the ground. high jumps and knee high warm ups is another good one.
As part of warm-up I get players in pairs. One player stands a metre in from the netball fence or wall and the other player throws firm high balls over their head, so they have to really leap to touch/catch the ball. This has helped my teams leaping. Also we use rubber bungee cords attached to a belt around a players waist. 2 players stand on a cord - one each side of the jumping player, and the jumper bounces on a mini trampoline. it adds resistence and builds strength.
in more ways than one
Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
