We play in our local league and haven't recorded stats before. Wheres a good place to start?
Hi Julia,
Firstly, I would advise you to take shooting stats - so attempted shots and goals - this should be done quarter by quarter, for example, a tick for a goal and a cross for a miss. It is important to make your shooters aware of their stats to make them accountable, preferably they should be shooting above 70%.
I would also advise you to take the stat of centre pass to goal. Every other centre pass your team will take so it is important your team score from these. Each centre pass put a tick if it goes to goal (e.g. gets into the shooting circle) and a cross if it doesn`t - this will show you that there has been a mistake, turnover or something has gone wrong.
Another important stat is mistakes, you can do this by individual player or as a team. Simply tally or count the number of mistakes your team makes and jot a note of what it was - e.g. 3 sec, contact, bad pass, footwork etc.
A final stat I would advise you to record is interception/turnovers to goal. It is important that your team cannot only turn over ball, but more importantly, capitalise from this and take it to a goal-scoring opportunity. Again, this can be a tick or cross.
These stats will allow you to reflect on your quarter by quarter performance and also help direct training. For example, if your centre pass to goal stats were low (below 70%) then you should tailor your training session to this.
Hope this helps.
