I have a young player who is 5-6 and her first year. She is very scared of catching the ball, she closes her eyes and turns away. I have shown her correct hand position and called her hands her super heroes and they will protect her. I have shown that if she has her hands and arms in the right position the ball will not hit her. I have tried using bean bags (might go back to this). What else can I do to help her. She is so sweet and I don't want her singled out in drills if she can't catch.I'd love some help on this
I`m having a similar situation, maybe try using a lighter ball, but the same size. For example a beach ball. Or using a netball but throwing it slowly and then increasing the speed. Hope this helped!

Thank you- I`ve started working with little beanbags - hopefully this will help build confidence :)
my now 5yr old was the same we started with bounce passes then progressed to chest passing. She was worried the ball would hit her glasses and break them. Now she is very confident with passing and catching the ball.

Oh yes! Thank you - this little one is scared of it hitting her face. One of our girls had a blood nose (from a ball to the face) one day and it terrified her more.
Thanks for the suggestions very sensible.
