How do I coach a player to be more agressive? She is a briljant player but everytime she taps the ball she puts up both her hands and doesn't go again. She is a really nice girl and I think she doesn't want to break any rules. I need her to play more agressive
it may just take her some time to get that confidence and inner desire to want the ball than anyone else. but its more confidence than anything else. but here is a quick drill i did with my U11s that had the parents in stitches on game day. they were completely blown away at the change in desire to want the ball. all i did was hold onto the ball with 2 hands, and asked each player to try and take it from me with all their force. it took less than 1 minute. they thought it was awesome fun. on game day, every time 2 players contested possession of the ball, it was one of my players that pulled it out of their hands and gained possession. so maybe try that before each game and at training and see if giving her lots of praise when she shows the desire for the ball you want. be careful, you might create a monster....lol
hope that helps

Hi Lizelle,
We had a similar question posted on the site a while ago and these were two of the answers we got, hopefully they will help you:
"about 9 years ago when we I coached my daughters younger netta team, I used to get them to imagine that the ball was their most prized possesion and no one could take it from them & they had to really play hard to get it back. if you give them something to visualise they will change. it worked for me."
"it is something that will develop with confidence. i wouldnt sweat it too much. they are still cute at this age, and there is so much to learn. you can play a lot of one on one competitive games, like put a ball in a hoop on the ground and send 2 members running to get it. hold the ball in your hands and 2 players have to run and get it, roll the ball on the ground and 2 players run and get it. but all in all, just keep making it fun."
Many thanks,

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
