I coach a team of 14/15 year old girls who a friends outside of school as well as on the court, however they don't work well as a team and I want to do some sort of team building to improve their talking on the court and overall help them to work better on the court.
An important thing is that they know each other and can anticipate each other, on a rainy day try simple team building exercises such as two truths one lie or friend match quizzes. Hot potatoe is also a good team building exercise. encorperating prizzes always works too! x
I videod the girls playing a match and then they had a slumber party that night with lots of pizza, chips and lollies. They danced around the loungeroom to Gangnam Style and watched themselves on video. They had so much fun that they want to do it again this year.
None of my team knew each other on or off the court. It was a fantastic team building excercise as they picked up things they were doing wrong on court and also encouraged each other when something great happened on the video. I will definitely be re-doing this excercise again. Hope it works for you too!
try taking them off court and doing something that isnt netball. like beach soccer or volleyball. you could also have competitions about most supportive on court, or loudest (in a positive way) on court for training (or games). have everything they do about talking to each other on court. that to catch the ball they have to call to other players, or call out the play if they can see someone making a good break. if they dont then the team does some strength, or fitness drill. be creative and see what works with them.

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
