Help-Individuals not gelling as team?

Help-Individuals not gelling as team?

One of my young teams is made up of players who play as individuals and fail to see that working together as a team would make them stronger. Obviously we have had the discussion and focussed on this in drills but it continues to be a feature. There are some strong players but together it's chaotic! ..any advice on how to successfully address this so that I may get the best out of them?

depends on the age group you are talking.  the younger the players the more likely they will play as individuals.  maybe come up with an exercise where they have to get the ball and all players from one end of the court to the next using only a few pieces of equipment and not touch the ground.  2 teams maybe (defence and attack), and having them work together as a group they have might understand that it is not an individual effort.  good fun and good for team building.

another option, is if there is only a couple of players that wont work as a team, then make them one team and put everyone else on the other team, and play a game.  makes it very obivous real quick how only a couple of people cant do all the work, and how the team as a whole must work together.

good luck.

I have found the best way to combat this is to spend some time each training session doing some group bonding activities that are not netball related e.g. arranging themselves in height (tallest to shortest) without speaking or have them say their birthday month (which everyone has to remember) and again arrange themselves without speaking - if there are 2 in the same month then they give the date. There are lots of these group bonding activities online. I have found these to work from 7 years olds to my 16's Rep team who still love doing them for a bit of fun!

agree with all the above.  This comes with all ages, you will have super stars in the team.  Pull them aside drill the importance of being team players and exercise the importance of court balance and ask them what their thoughts are and how they could work on being part of the team.  The other thing is you have an entire team verses these two.  Netball has seven players right!

What I have done is sit them out of a for quater/half a game and that worked.  Its not punishing them its just saying hey I exercise the right to have structure.  Stamp your mark!
