Netball Drill Demonstration

Description

  • The GA will set up on the line ensuring their defender is on their inside (as shown)
  • The WA will start off the line and not directly behind the GA - you need the defence to believe you are going to offer straight for the ball
  • The WA will go around the GA, as they are holding this space, and receive the ball from the C
  • The GA will then flip out and receive the next ball deep into the goal third
  • The GS will hold their space until the GA has caught the ball and turned full so the GA is ready to release the ball
  • The GS will receive the ball from the GA and they can put up a shot

Coaching points

  • The WA must time her move perfectly, if she moves too soon the defence will realise the move and will close it down. As soon as the C steps in and the whistle goes, the WA can move and go around the GA
  • The GA must time her movement when to flip out, she may have to hold for an extra second to ensure the defender is on her back
  • The GS should hold in front and on the side of the court the ball is coming down (in this example the left side) and time their movement so they only make their drive when the GA is ready to pass in
  • Ensure the GA passes the ball into space, not where the shooter is but where they are going to be - this pass should be away from the defender
