Defenders are 2m away from the ruck laying on their stomach looking away from the attackers, who are 10m behind the ruck. When the whistle blows, Attackers run to whatever position they feel best. Defenders must react and slide left or right. When the halfback picks up the ball is when its time to press and every pad is to be hit. It is the discretion on the halfback how quickly defence must react. The halfback must also be managed/watched by a defender (10 Channel) therefore must always be +1 defender to amount of pads.
