Small-sided game. Uneven teams is okay. If group is large, split into 2 games. Coach instructs 1 team to carry out a secret mission for [x] mins. The mission can relate to the aim of the session. Examples of secret missions: Attacking: wing play - score from a cross Goalscoring: shoot from outside the circle, and try to score a deflected goal/'tip-in' goal Stick skills: try to shoot, pass and block with the reverse stick Attacking: Always eliminate defenders on their weak (left) side Attacking: counterattack - score within [10]secs of winning the ball Defending: win the ball back within [5] seconds Tactics: Perform a high press (all move toward goal, mark tight, give no space to opposing defence) Swap the teams, then give out 2 more secret missions in the same way. Variations: Scoring: single goal with GK / wide gates / run over the opposition's backline Dynamics: Rotate players or swap teams over occasionally Pitch size: reduce to increase intensity
Feedback: What was the other team's secret mission? Did it work well? Why/why not? Give a bonus point to a team that succeeded in their mission.
