Rugby Drill Demonstration

Overview - This attack sequence is only used once play enters the opponent's half. It is a sequence of attacking phases not a team game plan.During the attack phases the #15 & #11 cover behind the attack but do not join in. This should cover any possible mistakes and keep the opposing players distracted. The 2nd & 3rd phases can be repeated to allow each player time to get into the required positions.

Coaching points

This attack sequence requires good ball control and recycling skills to be effective. Focus is on keeping the ball more than gaining territory. The backs should attack with pace once they are in play. The option to reverse the direction of play is available if required after the 3rd phase. Ball carriers must run on to each pass and ensure the ball is secured in & after contact.
