Split group in to 3 teams
Practice has 2 parts
Part 1
Blue team play keep ball against Red. Multi-direction game played until A make 10 passes or D make a touch
Part 2
Once one of the above outcomes has been reached, D will be given number of defenders allowed to defend against a predetermined set of A (called by a 2nd coach) who are set up from the ruck.
D turns to face Yellow team, sets up their defensive line from ruck, and defends full contact for one phase
Once this phase is over, Yellow play keep ball from Red whilst Blue set up their attack
Red defend for 4-6 phases continuous
Numbers of A and D will vary from attack to attack, so sometimes A will have overload, sometimes D will have overload, sometimes even numbers
Part 1
High work rate from D, trying to make the touch before A make 10 passes
Part 2
Assess number of A early to help us decide which defensive system we are going to use
If D has less = COLD. Looking to drift once the first pass is made, mind set is to hit the next player down the line
If D has same or more = HOT. Looking to generate line speed and make dominant hit, mindset is to hit opposite man and double tackle if possible
MUST ASSESS A AND COMMUNICATE SYSTEM EARLY - outside man to communicate system as he can see where widest A player finishes
