The aim is for the defending team to work on their outletting and trying to get the ball to the half way line quickly and without interception from the attackers who will be working on their press. The defenders will start from all different positions for a 16 yard hit- close to the baseline, wide, narrow and high. They will then have to try to outlet the ball to the two mini goals on the half way line. If the attackers do get the ball in their press then they are able to turn and attack towards the goal.
Attacking: The attacking team can use which ever press they choose to try and gain the ball and then attack the goal. This should recap previous sessions work.
Outletting team: Outletting effectively is an important part of hockey as it will help the defense get the ball out of danger and up the field quickly. Moreover, if the outlet goes wrong then the opposition will have an attacking overload. As with the long corners allow the defending team to make their own routines they want to use and are comfortable with. Some suggestions:
- Pass to the other full back who should be on the baseline and making a good angle to pivot the ball around the back
- Pass to the half back who should then depending on what press is being used should be able to pass the ball straight down the line or carry the ball.
- Aerial the ball over the defense- they will think twice about doing a high press nest time!
- Get the CM to bounce in a receive and then pass back or they can take the ball and the other full back drops back.
