Attacking heading with goalkeeper

Group in pairs. 1 ball per pair. Repeat in 5 other areas for a total of 12 players. The goalkeeper serves the ball underhand and with both hands in front of the player. The player runs in and heads the ball towards the goal. He should look up and head the ball downwards and towards the corners. Rotate positions. Serve the ball high or low to encourage the player to dive or leap to meet the ball.

Heading

Cobi Jones Speedstar

Station small goals (2 yards wide) in each corner of the area facing in towards the field of play with no goalkeepers. Play a 4 v 4 or a 6 v 6. The teams must try to keep possession and dribble the ball through the cones in order to score.

Possession

Defending 1 On 1 With A Goalkeeper

Goalkeeper passes to player 2, who must attempt to dribble the ball past player 1 and score a goal. Player 1 assumes a sideways position and blocks the path to the goal. If the defender wins the ball, he should try to dribble over the end line. Rotate positions. Allow the player to shoot as soon as he receives the ball. The player must close down the space to the ball and get into line between the attacker and the goal as quickly as possible.

Defending

One Two Combination

Place 4 goals at the corners of the fields.3 players per side.Players must one-two combine, before putting the ball through the goal.No more than 2 touches before passing through the goal.

Passing and Receiving

One v One Tag

Two players with a ball each stand in a 10x10 square. Player 1 has 1 minute to tag player 2 as many times as possible on the shoulder. You must maintain possession of the ball at all times; if player 2's ball leaves the square then player 1 is awarded a tag. After every tag the tagger must retire to a corner. After 1 minute, player 2 tries to beat player 1's score.

Defending

Speed Dribbling Triangles

Position 2 players in opposite corners of the area. Repeat in 2 other areas for a total of 12 players. Player 1 dribbles to the cone, does a turn, sprints to the next cone, turns and makes a pass. Follow the pass to force player 2 to get the ball out of his feet. Work both directions to use both feet. Turns to use: Outside, Inside, Cruyff, Stop Turn, Rivelino, Step Over.

Three players stand behind 1 corner of the grid each. The ball is played to a player on one of the cones. The ball cannot be passed diagonally. The spare player must move to give the ball carrier a second passing option.

Passing and Receiving

The Triangle with Movement

Aim of the Drill; to pass and have the player of the ball react to the pass and provide support by running to the open space.Set up a square grid with cones.Place 3 players on 3 of the corners.Player 2 starts with the ball. He initially has support to his left and right from players 1 and 3.He now passes to player 3, player 3 has only support from player 2. Player 1 must recognize this and run to the occupied cone and re-establish support in 2 directions for the ball handler.

Set up a rectangle, 15x10m, with a player on each corner plus two defending players inside the grid with bibs on. The outside players must try to stretch the two defenders in order to make space for the diagonal pass. In order to do this they can pass laterally and use dummy passes to send the defenders. Players keep count of how many diagonal passes they have completed.

Possession

World Cup Headers

Groups of 4 players are paired and stationed on the sides of the area as shown in the diagram. Each team takes on the identity of a World Cup Team. The object of the game is to head the ball past the opposing team and over the opposing goal line. The player in possession serves the ball to his teammate to head towards the opposing goal line. The defending team must attempt to stop the ball from crossing their end line without using their hands. Once the ball has been stopped, the receiving player picks the ball up and serves the ball to his partner to repeat in the opposite direction. If a team heads a ball straight back and scores, the team gets 2 points.

Back Post Corner Crossing and ...

Again, the signal made between player and corner taker before the ball is played into the box.A player should be on the front post, with three attackers making runs into the area between the back post and the six-yard line. They should attack the goal by heading, or look for an alternative player.

Short Corner - Shot Crossing a...

Again, a player at back end of 18-yard area gives initial signal for type of corner to be taken (one hand or two hands up for example), which is then relayed to the rest of the team.With the rest of the team in different positions and roles, the player who gave the signal should be able to run into space at the front post. They then receive the ball from the corner taker and takes a shot.

Once the signal has been given between a player and the corner taker, the ball is then crossed into the box. Three players should be making runs into the box from the edge of the area, and attacking the ball, with a player also on the front post to attack or flick the ball on.

Teams are made up of 3 players. Each team will look to attack the opposition goal in the opposite corner of the pitch. This will involve good passing and switching of the play.

Pass Around The Corner Passing...

Set up a square roughly 10m x 10m.Have a few players at each corner.A Player (1) from one corner runs clockwise around the square with a ball; halfway to the next corner they pass to the Player (2) at this corner. Player 2 passes immediately back to the Player 1 and starts running clockwise to the next corner.Player 1 passes the ball on to the Player (3) at the corner in front of Player 2. Player 3 then passes to Player 2 and starts running.Player 2 passes to Player 4, who passes to Player 3 who is running towards them. Play moves clockwise, allowing each player to have a few turns.Then play anti-clockwise.

Ratio of 1 ball to 3 players. Players with the ball are put on the outside of the grid. The other players pair up inside the grid and choose 1 person as the attacker and 1 person as the defender. The attacking player must get free from their defender, receive the ball from any support player and play it back without losing possession.

Set up a square roughly 10m x 10m.Have a few players at each corner.In 2 of the corners (diagonal) a player starts with a ball. They run clockwise around the square to the next corner. When they reach the corner they put their foot on the ball to stop it so that the player at that corner can take it over immediately.The ball moves clockwise around the square.Repeat anticlockwise after each player has dribbled the ball a few times.

Frogger Dribbling - Football D...

Section off four 5 x 5 yard squares in the corners of your 20 x 20 yard area. Station 3 players without a ball in each corner area. Before the game starts, the coach can tell the players the story of frogger, who jumps from lily pad to lily pad visiting his friends. He must return home before dark or else his mother will give him a good tongue lashing. Once the game begins, the coach shouts out, "Frogger!" Players must run from their corner area to the next sequential corner area as shown in the diagram. Continue the activity until players return to the area where they started.

They pass the ball clockwise around the square, to the next corner and follow their pass.The ball is passed clockwise around the square.Once each player has passed a few times switch to anti-clockwise.

Pick your spot Shooting - Foot...

Depending on where the pass is played to players must shoot in a particular area of the goal. If the pass is played wide the shot should be driven into the opposite corner of the goal (so a feed to right should be scored in the left corner of the goal). If the pass is central the shooter should not hit the ball with their laces but instead place the ball in a corner of their choice.

Set up two goals, one at either end of the half pitch and two narrow channels (with cones), one to the left and the other to the right of the goals.Players must dribble with the ball using both feet through the channel towards goal. When they are within 15m of the goal they should prepare to shoot, with a shot across the goalkeeper into the far corner.

The first player passes the ball along the outside of the square, then sprints to the opposite corner. He can sell the mannequin a dummy on the way past or touch it and retreat two yards, before playing the foot and setting off on the sprint. The player who receives the pass takes a touch then passes the ball on and does the same.

Set up a square roughly 10m x 10m.Have a few players at each corner.A Player (1) from one corner runs anti-clockwise towards Player 2. Player 2 passes into the feet of Player 1 and starts running clockwise to the next corner.Player 1 then passes the ball on the diagonal for Player 2 to run onto. Once received, the ball in then passed onto the next player to repeat the pattern.Play moves anti-clockwise, allowing each player to have a few turns.Then play clockwise.

Passing pattern: The ball starts with the player near the corner flag who passes up the line to the next player. the next player must them play a long ball (lofted or driven) the opposite corner player. That player must then control the ball and then pass to the center player who then dribbles back to the start point.

Straight forward passing and moving drill with only two touches on the ball. The blue players off the ball can only receive the ball at one of the four cones in each corner of the area and the red player is trying to intercept the ball.

Cone placed just inside the near post, 2 yards off the line.GK goes round the cone and recieves a shot high into the far top corner.GK then repeats with limited recovery time to get them out of position and more likely to have use the hgih save technique to make a save in the top corner.

The first player plays a one-two pass with player 2, who passes back in front of player 1's looping run. Player 1 then dribbles with the ball either to the half-way line or the by-line where they then: either pass to player 3 on the half-way line who then dribbles to the outside of the 16 yard box and shoot or cross the ball into the box for the attacking player to attack.

Set up six goals on a full-size pitch (use cones/poles for goals), a small goal at each corner of the pitch and a further two goals on each side of the half-way line.Players score 1 point for their team every time they pass or dribble through the goal on the half-way line and two points for every goal scored in the goals on the corners.

Have a mannequin on the edge of the penalty circle, and another in line with it out, out at the left hand corner of the penalty box.Players positioned on cones 1, 2 and 3 as shown in the diagram, each with a ball.Player 1 dribbles a ball to the mannequin in front of them, feints one way then moves the ball the other way to shoot. The Player then runs back towards the next mannequin and receives the ball from Player 2. Player 2 runs up to the right of the mannequin and Player 1 lays the ball off to them to take a shot.Both players then run in to receive a cross from Player 3, on the outside right. (Player 1 takes front post, Player 2 back)

Does anyone have any good corner set pieces for 7 a side U11 team (short or long). Have a tournament coming up most games finish 0-0. i think if we can get a goal or two from corners it will be enough to get us close to winning. Thanks Dean
