coach ( grey player) has the ball on the base line. the offence ( red players) are set up on a 5 out offence outside the 3 point line. Each defender ( blue players) are assigned a individual player and are lined up on the baseline. the coach passes the ball out to any player on offense and their partner has to close out by cutting their steps. the offensive player will use one dribble to try beat their man and then hold the ball for 3 seconds once they pick up their one dribble allowing for the defensive player to get infront of the ball. once these 3 seconds have elapsed ball is passed back to the coach.
ball is initally rolled out so it allows for the defender to get to their man however as the drill progressive the speed of the pass will be increased. defender should cut their steps before they get to the offensive player. when getting infront of the ball after the offensive player has dribbled the ball, the defender should be encouraged to shout ball ( links in with a later principle based on communication) and try to act like they would steal the ball by slapping the ball upwards. although this isnt a offensive drill offensive players should be enouraged to square up to basketball and enter triple threat.
