Jade Vanderzwan - 1v1 Elimination Skills

Excellent drills, very detailed videos. Useful site for my U15 boys...
Parry, U15 boys Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

Basically a 1v1 then another 1v1 if the attacker gets past first defender.

1. Yellow attacker plays a 1v1 against the first blue defender.

  • Defenders can't tackle until the attacker enters their box.

2. If the attacker beats the defender, they then play another 1v1 against the second waiting blue defender.

3. If the defender wins the ball, the attacker who lost it becomes the new defender in the box.

Tell players to keep track of points. 1 point for beating one defender and 2 points for dribbling over baseline.

COACHING POINTS

Attacking Focus:

  • Quality of first touch to space
  • Driving to space

Defensive Focus:

  • Squeezing players to one side (body stance)
  • Not getting square with flat foot tackles
  • Early footwork and preparation (not over-committing and rushing in)

Variation for Senior & Skilful Groups:

  • Pass in, pass out before commencing 1v1
  • If skill level is high, potential to do a 1v2 with both defenders free to tackle the attacker (remove separate boxes)
