Mini D Scoring Carry

I really appreciate the Hockey Coaching on Sportplan. The senior girls...

DESCRIPTION

4 Attackers start in the D man-marked by 4 defenders (defenders can only tackle their allocated player).

Remaining players surround the D with one ball each.

To score, the attackers must collect a pass from a player at the top of the D and carry the ball into the marked scoring zone then complete a pass back to a player on the outside of the D.

Outside players can move balls between them if required.

Defending players try to clear the ball through the defenders out of the D (balls can be replaced by coaches).

Progression 1: Attackers can only pass back to a player on the outside who is without a ball.

Progression 2: Coach doesn't replace balls. Game ends when all the balls have been cleared by defenders.

COACHING POINTS

  • Making leading runs - double movements
  • Recognising space and using your body to protect the ball on the turn
  • Ending a ball carry with a completed pass

Progression 1: Head up - being aware of which of your team-mates are open for a pass

Progression 2: Players on the outside to make it difficult for defenders to clear. As balls decrease, players will need to make moves off the ball to create space for team-mates. Outside players may need to play the ball between them (transfer play) to create more space.
