Close range shooting

Great site. An absolute must for coaches who are willing to change...

DESCRIPTION

Everybody will take it in turns to have a go at being the striker. The striker starts on the penalty spot.

Everybody else has two balls each, if theres a lot of people, just have one ball each.

Player on the left hand side starts the drill by passing their ball (strong flat pass, can be a push or a slap) to the striker.

Striker has 2 touches, first touch control the ball, second touch to push the ball into the corners of the goal.

The next player on the outside of the D then passes their ball to the striker.

Work your way across the D, then repeat with second ball.

When all the balls are gone, ball collection and change the striker.

Striker should be leading towards the player passing the ball, communicating and showing where they want the ball with their stick and their body positioning.

If the pass is strong enough, the striker should try a first time deflection rather then two touch.

The striker should not be hitting the ball from close range as defenders in a game will then have more time to tackle, plus we should be placing the ball in the corners not going for power.
