Right half ball receiving

I love using Sportplan. It's been a great help for co-ordinating hockey...
Laura, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

In this drill the right half back receives the ball out of a transfer and passes it either inside to the centre half or alongside the line to the striker.

1. Full back passes (preferably slap hit) wide to the half back

2. Half back either takes a few steps towards the ball and passes it to the centre half, or passes it to the striker

3. Centre half and striker finish the attack

COACHING POINTS

1. The first pass should be a hard, flat hit.

2. Before the half back receives the ball, it should've already made a decision about where the next pass is going to go. If the defender closes down the line, the defender should take a few steps towards the ball while receiving it (to create a better passing angle) and release it to the centre half.  If the defender chooses to close down the centre, the half back should pass it to the striker, ideally with a one touch pass/defelction.

Add more defenders and an extra attacker in the D to create an even more game related situation.
