Tennis: Forehand Change Racket

Thank you very much for the marvellous site.
Nick, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Basket is placed in front of the player with one racket on top of it
  • Player holds other racket and starts the exercise
  • Player switches the racket and moves to the deuce side to hit forehand
  • Players recovers and switches the rackets again before the next repetition

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, player works on grip's change by switching between the rackets
  • This simple action puts a lot of emphasis on focus (mental part) and on feeling of the grip (physical part)
  • If player performs this exercise well, coach can make it more difficult by increasing the pace of the feeding (less time for preparation) or by adding specific physical exercise close to the basket e.g 2 kangaroo jumps (tiredness) to see if player is able to maintain quality of the performance
