player/cone circle setup

Head to cone in circle with stick. Check-in with coach and given arrival challenge: Arrival Challenge: How many different ways can you jump over your stick and cone? (The cone can not be moved but the stick can) Examples: 1 foot, 2 feet, spin jump, leap frog over, stick on top of cone, stick beside cone, stick in front, side to side hops, length of stick and cone combined, etc.. Coach: Note out loud the creative ideas you are seeing from different players..."I like how _____ has setup his stick and cone", "Wow, what a great 1 foot jump from ____" Welcome: Introduce yourself - Tell a little bit about yourself and focus for today: Ball control Play: Question/ Answer game: Tall as a tree = yes, Small as a mouse = no Who has played field hockey before? Who has a family member that's played field hockey before? Who has a pet that has played field hockey before? Who likes to play in the sun? Who likes to play in the rain? Who like to play in the snow? etc.... Coach: this is a chance to find out about your players and make kids relaxed by asking some silly/fun questions. You can play with both by changing the questions you ask and how fast you ask the questions. Kids don't have to talk just move up and down in response. At the start I recommend you also answer questions by moving up and down to make kids more comfortable and demonstrate the fun of it.
