V-drags and Roll-outs

I love using Sportplan. It's been a great help for co-ordinating hockey...
Laura, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

  • The group is split into 4 equal sets. Place one group behind each starting cone.
  • The triangular placed cones are for V-drags: The player runs to the red cone, pulls the ball back to the cone closest to them, and then speeds up as they change direction.
  • The circular placed cones are for Roll-outs. The player goes to the red cone first, and goes around in a circle, looping back upon themselves, to speed up as they change direction.
  • Players should do one set after the other, and when they have finished in their line, join the next. Players should allow the person in front of them to complete 2 cone sets before starting themselves. The last line also has a shot on goal, in which a goalkeeper will be stationed in.

COACHING POINTS

Demonstrate how a V-drag and Roll-out is done before beginning.

These skills are used to avoid defenders. This should be a high intensity, quick paced exercise. Keep watch of players stances, as they could get back ache if they are not in the correct positioning.
