Transferal with boxes

Excellent, used the drills at our first training session today with...
Shane, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

This exercise uses 4 people, but more can be added, and also multiple groups can be used. 6 Cones are required.

  • Player 1 runs from their cone into the box created by the cones. The player from the other cone (player 3) releases the ball into the box for player 1 to pick up.

Following the blue arrows

  • Whilst on the move, player 1 picks up the ball, and drives out of the box, and around the cone on their left. They then push/sweep the ball to player 2- the player on the cone they came from. Player 1 loops back to the cones they started on.
  • This is repeated, as player 3 runs into the box, and player 2 releases the ball. Player 3 runs around the cone to their left, and passes the ball back to player 4, and jogs back to their own cone.

Following the red arrows (increasing difficulty)

  • The exercise is identical, however players loop around the cone on their right, which means they require a reverse stick push/sweep to return the ball.

COACHING POINTS

  • If required, show players how to reverse stick sweep correctly, without accidently lifting the ball or using the back of their stick.
