Zone 1 5 Drills - Volleyball D...

Player 1 starts by serving from the base line and then enters the court. <br /><br /> He/she then runs into the correct zone (zone 1), where player 2 (standing in zone 4) hits the ball to him/her around waist high. Player 1 then has to dig up the ball, and return it to player 2 as if setting up a spike. <br /><br /> Player 1 then returns to their zone, where player 3 (from zone 2) hits the ball to them short in the middle of court. Player 1 then has to dig up the ball back to player 3. <br /><br /> Player 1 then returns back to their zone and steps two to three are repeated.

As Player 1 moves direction, players 2,3,4,5 shuffle around shadowing his movement. When Player 1 changes direction, the other players must do so too, staying in the box formation.

Start the game by volleying the ball over the net to the player at the back of court they overhand pass the ball to the player at the net who sets the ball up for the player to move forward and play the ball over the net by making a spike approach and tipping the ball to the back court defender, this then is repeated for a set number, length of time or can be made competitive.

Two players stand at the baseline at 1 and one player stands at the baseline at 5, a feeder feeds the ball alternating to 1 and 5 the players run from 1 to 5, side step the last two steps and pass to a target directly in front of them. Then a player runs from five to one and does the same if you have run from 5-1 then you go to the baseline at 1 and visa-versa. This drill continues for set time or number of good contacts. This drill can be fast, slow or whatever the feeder makes it, you can underhand feed or feed with a topspin hit. You can do this with two feeders feeding at the same time, however this can cause confusion but that’'s ok. Players need to be able to sort it out or give them some help and guidance by asking appropriate questions i.e. what do you do if?

ORGANISATION:<br />Divide the volleyball court into 3 parts with 8 players per area and 2 teams of 4.<br /><br />TASK:<br />Start the game/rally with an underhand serve where the ball hits the ground. If too close to the net, take 2 steps back. Pass the ball over the net in one go with:<br />- 2 outsrectched arms<br />- 1 overhand<br />- 1 underhand<br /><br />For each team of 4, the rules are:<br />If you throw the ball across the net, everyone rotates clockwise. If a player drops the ball/throws the ball out of play or into the net, they leave the court. When the ball is caught in the next rally three times in a row the player returns. When the court is empty the other team gets a point.

Every time the ball is dropped the player that drops the ball has to leave the field. First team to lose all players loses the point.

Defending other players' zone ...

Players line up in backcourt area. The feeder throws the ball to either Zone 1, 6 or 5. Players' must dig the ball back to the feeder. However, the player standing in Zone 6 must move to receive the balls sent to Zone 1 and 5. The player standing in zone 5 must move to receive the ball thrown into 1 or 6 and so on. The two players not in the zonal area the ball has been thrown to must communicate with each other to see who will return the ball to the feeder.

Set up four cones in a square in one half of the court, with a player and a ball on each. The remainder of your players should line up a couple of meters behind the back line.On the coach's whistle players take it in turns to run out each cone in turn where they play a pass and return before running to the next station to play another pass and return.

Player 1 (setter) in Zone 3 jumps to imitate a block at the net, lands and turns to face the back of the court. Player 2 then feeds a high ball (a) to player 1. Player one will then set the ball up close to the net on the left hand side of the court (b) so player 3 (running in from zone 5) can finish with a left side attack. Players 1 and 2 then repeat steps 2 and 3. This time player 1 sets up the ball close to the net on the right hand side of the court (c) so player 4 (running in from zone 1) can finish with a right side attack. Repeat steps one and two, but this time player 2 should set the ball up (d) so player 1 can attempt a ball tipping.

Play a 2 v 2 mini-match, on which setters and spikers play their roles throughout. Spikers dig and take kills while setters only set. All attacks go crosscourt.

The ball is served to player 1, who is standing in zone 6. Player 1 then digs up the ball (a) to player 2 (standing close to the net in zone 2). Player 3 then throws the ball (b) from zone 4 to player 1 who has to either bump or set the ball (c) depending on the way the ball is fed to them. Player 2 then feeds the ball (d) to player 1, who again either has to bump or set the ball (e). After a set number of repetitions of the previous steps, player 1 must set the ball (f) from Zone 6 to Zone 4 for a spike (g).

Player 1, standing at the net, performs a block movement, and returns back to zone 1 behind the attack line. Player 2 (standing close to the net in zone 4) then hits the ball to player one to mimic an opponents spike. Player 1 then digs up the ball to player 3 (who is standing close to the net in the centre of the court), who then sets up player 1 to finish with a right side attack. The drill is then repeated.

2 players stand on either side of the net, and the receiver starts with the ball by overhand passing it across the net. This player then passes to their team mate who overhand passes it back for the spike.The spiker places the ball crosscourt. On the other side, the receiver's role is to step back from the net to the attack like and try and dig the ball back across the net.

Attacking One Handed Tip 5 Dri...

The person on the side of the mats feeds the ball to the two players opposite who communicate and pass the ball to the net for the ball to be set up for an attacking one handed tip to the mat that has not been occupied by the feeder. This means that the attacking player needs to work on creating a good field of vision and observe where the feeder has moved to.

Working in 3's, one player throws the ball over the net for a player to underhand pass the ball to the target player at the net. The target player has a ball and as soon as the ball is thrown by the feeder he throws his ball so as to bounce once to the feeder and catches the ball being passed by the player. This drill can be measured in time or good repetitions. The reason for using two balls is you can do a vast amount of contacts in a short time; the feeding can be changed to a service when the feeder is a competent server as the emphasis is the passing.

1) In pairs the players have one ball betwen them. 2) Standing on opposite sides of the court player 1 throws the ball as if spiking/serving to their partner who catches it. 3) Player 1 then has to lay down on their back as quickly as possible and get bback onto their feet. 4) Player 2 then repeats steps 2 and 3. 5) The players then repeat the steps for a limited time.
