Tag Rugby Defence drills for kids

Tag Rugby Defence drills for kids

Hi, I'm coaching Tag rugby in Japan for ages 8-9yrs. Tryingto help kids stay in a defensive line and not group towards ball. Looking for drill ideas

Hi James,

You could implement a drill similar to this one where defenders are designated specific channels they must operate in. This emphasises the importance of staying spread out in defence and keeping the width.

Bunching in attack is also a problem for younger players. There is a great drill on the site called 'Depth and quick hand' under the handling category which emphasises realigning and organising in attack and passing it out to the wide player.

Hope this helps.
