It is important that players are able to control the ball when playing shots like the half-volley.
Control should be the priority, because hitting the shot powerfully is pointless if players are close to the net and the point of contact is close to their ankles.
Coaches should explain to players that having the proper mindset (in preparing for the shot) while hitting half-volleys to avoid unforced mistakes and to become more successful at the net.
