what does catching the ball between the legs acheive for the players

I think maybe it focuses total attention on ball. a good exercise in hand eye co-ordination. Useful in close quarter passing and off loads senarios, especially amongst forwards who at rucks can be recieveing ball at such heights i would think. would also love to here others comments.

This drill is used in other sports I've played too (Grid-Iron, Basketball), and is designed to improve the all around feel for the ball. Hand and finger speed is necessary to execute basic passing and is especially important for offloading. People who are required to carry the ball a lot often start every practice with warm-ups like this.
