at what age is it illegal for a player to wear blades ? If a player wears them at under 12 level can i ask tha opposing coach to remove the player with blades and only use players wearing studs ?
Metal blades like the soccer type are, as are the pointed football studs. Blades aren't illegal if they're rubberised. However, blades aren't suitable for players in the scrummage, and I would ask that the opposing coach make sure that his/her forwards have proper rugby studs on, for safety of all in the scrum.
As with mouth guards, I think coaches need to be given a definitive answer by the RFU as to what stance they're taking and it has to be a positive one, not one that leaves coaches to negotiate on a sat afternoon or sun morning.
I'm a safety consultant (not a H&S nazi, as some stereotype us as!) and the advice I always give is that 'safety cannot be negotiated!'. Unfortunatley, thats exactly whats happening!!!
i think blades should be banned full stop
