I am currently coaching at under 9's level and some of my players are suffering from 'rabbits in headlights' syndrome in regards to tackling and defence during a game. The players do it perfectly at training and understand the rules. Are there any tips or drills I can use to solve this?
Marc
I have attached a simple drill which is fun and also emphasises correct technique.
If you progress the drill on using the steps in "Key Skills" (see tab above) the practise will become more game related and so the youngsters will be more likely to reproduce their skills levels in a game.
It is so important that players at this age do not get put off playing because of tackling!
I hope this helps
Simon
