Vasile,

You are right. There is a fundamental difference between the RFU and IRB courses - that is, the IRB courses are aimed at rugby people who may have had less access to resources and even experience than the people the RFU are aiming their courses at.

If you do an RFU Level 2 course then you will gain all the knowledge you need to be a 7's coach, at least that is the RFU view. The IRB course aimed at 7's coaches may not be available in England as yet.

If you are interested in developing your coaching skills as a 7's coach then I can reccomend a book:

"Coaching Rugby 7's" by Marcus Blackburn * ISBN 13: 9780713676747 * Published Date: 05/06/2006 * Publisher: A & C Black Publishers Ltd * Imprint: A & C Black Publishers Ltd

I hope this helps

Simon

Hi Simon, Yes what I did finded on the irb.com about rugby 7s coaching courses make me to question more...because this is all I finded on irb.com : {Coaches - Coaching Sevens (IRB.COM) Wednesday 20 June 2007 PrintEmail Prerequisite: Nil Duration: 32 course hours Assessment: No assessment; provision of certificate for full attendance Course outline: The purpose of this course is to enable coaches to develop skills to coach the 7 a-side game Course details: The course focuses on the following aspects of the game: Principles of 7 a side rugby Team profiling Performance goals Key factor analysis Functional role analysis Tactics Preparation for a tournament Team analysis Practical application of key factor and functional role analysis Useful Resources * Coaching Sevens - hand book * Coaching Sevens - video samples For more information on when these courses are available, you should contact your Union. Contact details can be found by choosing your country from the dropdown list at the top of the right navigation on this page. Once you have selected your Union's page, click on the 'Union Contacts' tab.} But there is nothing else. I did get in touch with RFU.com and they said firstly that there is no SPECIFIC 7s coaching courses and today they send me another answer saing that the rugby 7s corse is in the same time with the rugby 15s on coaching courses levels 1 and 2. BUT, the informations on the irb.com (the one I posted above) saing that somewere, somehow is a specific rugby 7s coaching witch is for 32 hours... . So...? Can you help me a little bit more than you already did, please? Thank you very much. Best regards, Valeriu Chirita P.S. I am already qualified as a coach so I am only looking for a specific rugby 7s coaching courses... to improve my skills on this specific game.

Simon, Thank you very much. I will have a look around to buy this book. I just wanted to be ahead of the game and be one of the first to do a recognized IRB rugby 7s course. I bet soon it will be specialized rugby 7s courses. All the best, Valeriu
