I have been coaching this group for a number of years, but before Covid stopped play the boys had confidence tackling. When we returned back to full contact this year, a large percentage seem to have lost their confidence. I have tried 1v1 grid, tackling on knees, and running gauntlet (1v1). If anyone would know of any other drills that can increase confidence, that would be great.
Hi Alan,
It's important to note tackling confidence won't return overnight, it's just about being consistent with it in training and focussing on tackle technique and safety before increasing the intensity. If you have access to tackle pads and sausages, these are great at getting players comfortable making a tackle. It also helps reduce the risk of players picking up an injury!
Here's a session that you could try and sounds perfect for your situation. Hope this helps!
