How would you coach your backline to defend a mdfield scrum?

It depends how the opposition backs are aligned - often you can read what they are going to do by the way they position themselves and so you can react accordingly.

In terms of coaching this - I would have some attackers and get them to try different moves against your backs - only by going through real life situations can teams become good enough in games.

You might want to make it touch tackling in practises though!
