Hi Jack,

To improve passing skills, I recommend just using stationary uncontested passing to get them confident passing the ball both ways from a young age. 

Tackling can be more difficult as it's more important to focus on confidence and technique to tackle safely. Here's a drill which outlines the basics of tackling.

  • The aim of the drill is to develop tackle technique leading into contact.


Coaching Points:
  • The Key focus for the defender is use good footwork and stay balanced and moving forward, don’t become static. Emphasise Keeping elbows tucked in getting close to the attacker and making a two handed touch on the attackers waist.

  • Attacker look to beat the defender with footwork
