Larger players run straight through a poor hands only defence, kids trying to grab at jerseys and coming up with nothing.
Thanks for any input
Do you know why your children use their hands to tackle?
It does appear they might need a bit more confidence when going in for a tackle. Have a look at this drill, Bulldog on your knees - it teaches your kids to tackle when on their knees.
Impact is minimial, so you'll be able to coach your kids the proper technique to tackle without them feeling the fear of getting hurt (that's if fear of getting hurt is the problem why they use their hands).
I hope this was some help to you. Keep me updated with your progress, it wil be great to see!
Get them to tackle in a practise drill whilst holding a tennis ball in each hand. They therefore cannot grab and have to concentrate on the shoulder and ring of steel. The more they practise this the more they should get out of the habit of grabbing with hands. Unfortunately this is a habit I have seen evolved from their days playing tag
Good idea Malcolm, I think it has come from playing touch football and children not being outdoors as much as they used to be pre internet, games consoles.
