Player A stands in the ad corner, and player B tries to hit all balls to the ad corner. If the ball bounces in front of the cones, player A hits backhand down the line. If the ball bounces behind the cones, player A hits backhand cross court.
Hitting deep balls is a necessity to keep the opponent behind the baseline and force him/her to hit weaker shot. On the other side, ability to use shorter shots to take advantage with down the line direction as also deep cross court response from close-to-the-baseline shots are primary skills for baseliners.
In this drill, players work on different goals. Player A works on changing the direction according to the incoming ball (depth). Player B works on hitting all balls deep as also on endurance if the good placement is not achieved.
