Tennis Drill Demonstration

Description

Cones are set on the baseline. The player jumps over the big cone and lands with legs widely apart (flat cones between the legs). The coach feeds the ball to the backhand side, and the player hits backhand stroke.

Coaching points

Split step is a basic move that all players have to be taught. Performing a small jump when the opponent is hitting a ball is a necessity that all professional players mastered perfectly. Coaches should focus on this aspect from the first lessons with players of all ages.

In this drill, the player works on a split step. Big jump helps to emphasize this move while landing with flat cones between the legs forces the player to keep position wide and stable.
