Green Plus

DESCRIPTION

12 receives the ball from 9 again, but performs a switch with 10.

COACHING POINTS

  • 9 performs a skip pass to 12 once again as he runs his hard line making lots of noise, but this time angling inward only.
  • 12 then passes the ball off to 10 who is running back towards the open field.
  • This switch pass, if used after 2 or 3 Green Balls, should catch the 12 flat-footed and leave space for 10 to dart through the 12 & 13 gap, hit 13 on a hard tight line or 15 on a wide line.
  • It is up to the 14 to go with 13 on a short pass (Shown in yellow), or to exploit an overlap on a pull-pass to 15 (Shown in white).
  • This move is best used after a number of Green Balls, as the defence will be expecting more of the same and take a step narrower to smother 12. This should create gaps out wide, or at least put defenders in less favourable positions to make midfield tackles due to biting on 12.
  • (Tip) Once the backs have communicated to each other that a Green Plus is the call, have the 9. 10 or 12 loudly call for a Green Ball. The opposition will remember Green Ball and cheat by not marking properly. It is important that the backs know it is in fact a Green Plus however.
