In groups of 3 or 4: Passing outside of cones
Players receive ball and then carry ball forward and around the outside of centre cones
1) carry to right cone.
2) carry to left cone.
Follow pass and go to back of line on opposite side. If 3 players in line make sure ball starts on the side with the 2 players.
Once players have the pattern down give them a goal:
1) How many passes can you make in 2 minutes 2) Can you beat your groups number of passes by 5
1) As a whole group can we make ___ number of passes in 2 minutes 2) Do you think we can beat our whole group number by ___.
You can look to increase challenge/importance of accuracy by stating they only have the one ball to use.
Reminder:
Passing technique: Facing sideways, left shoulder in line with partner. Hands spread apart, knees bent. Place ball away from body at back foot and push ball forward while transferring weight from back foot to front foot. Stick ends pointing in direction of pass. Power in pass comes from legs. Cue: Push down and through.
Receiving: Ready position. Stick on Ground. In front or just outside of right foot. Right foot slightly back. Left arm should be pushed forward and right arm bent, creating a sloped angle for stick to trap ball. Cushion ball as it arrives (think of your stick like a pillow... creating a soft resting place for ball). When helping kids breaks apart the pieces of the technique to see where changes can be made. Example look at: i) stick position, ii) arm position iii) foot position
