FMS Field Hockey Game
Gather kids in centre of area without sticks. Ask them to look at the field hockey field around them. What do they notice? What do you know about a field hockey game?
Highlight that we have left and right sidelines, in the middle is the centre line, in front of you is the goal you want to score on and behind you is the goal you want to defend.
We are going to imagine we are playing a game and practice some of the movements we do in a game. Explain, demo and practice the different movements players will do do when they hear you call out the terms below. Start with the first 6 and then add additional ideas as you go.
Make it fun! Move with them and change your pace in calling out the different things.
Terms Coach yells out:
Attack: Running forward
Shift Left: Side shuffle left (make sure to point in the direction so kids know) Adv: Karaoke
Shift Right: Side shuffle right (make sure to point in the direction so kids know) Adv: Karaoke
Defend: Run backwards Adv: Backwards side-to-side shuffle
Goal: Arms out running Celebration!
Half-Time: squat down on pretend bench
Additional Movements:
Centre Line: Back to middle (spread out) in ready position
Foul: 5 quick big steps backwards & in ready position
Switch Directions (after half-time): Everyone turns and faces the other direction
Add any others you come up with!
