Block Tackle - Baseline

DESCRIPTION

Block tackle along the defensive baseline

Objective:

Defender attempts to turnover the ball along the baseline uing a block tackle.

Progression:

Once the ball is turned over by defender, the ball is played out to teammate on ballside sideline. This player would then go into a 1v1 against player A and attempt to score in the goals outside 23m line 

Concern:

Defender over commits and gets eliminated by attacker.

Defender misjudges the timing of the tackle and commits foul inside the penalty circle causing a penalty corner or penalty stroke.

COACHING POINTS

Ensure that the footwork of the defender is nimble.

Defenders need to set up the defender before executing block tackle.

Defender performs a lunge movement before executing skill.

Left hand nice and low to the ground ahead of left foot.

Defender can use one or two handed tackle.

Defender needs to be aware of exposing feet in the penalty circle.

 

Attacker moves the ball from A-B. Player B close receives the ball and passes to C. Player C performs an elimination skill past cones and thereafter attempts to eliminate the defender inside the penalty circle.
